Themes (Part 2)- French Black

Source: See credits

The french are famous for their food, their fashion and everything good in life. C'est la vie! Inspired by the good life, we created a French Black theme with a classic finish. Here are some fabulous pictures which 39 East took of our work.

Themes (Part 1) - Whimsical Pastels

Source: Elizabeth Anne Designs
Finding your theme can be quite a challenge. And it is just because there are so many to choose from. The easiest to start with is probably using colour themes. So you find a few hues and put them together through your deco, flowers, outfits, stationary and such.

When considering more elaborate themes, you pick the style you like and fit the colours into that. It can start from deciding on an era such as 60's vintage or a venue influenced theme like a spring garden, shanghai red, mad-hatters and so much more. These ones play around more with creating a character around the wedding and are always more dramatic and interesting.

In the spirit of themes, we played around with 2 contrasting effects - Whimsical Pastels (Part 1) and French Black (Part 2).

Whimsical Pastels
Pastels are a combination of pretty colours and as we styled the settings, we could not help but throw in some pom poms, butterflies and gold to create a whimsical theme.

Whimsical themes are for the fun, playful and quaint couple.
So before deciding on your theme, have a think about who you both are, characters, hobbies, loves and un-loves. Your theme will surface from there...

Special thanks to:

b)Ee-Lyn from We love Yu for dresses
c)Melissa Wang from Wonderland for the Space and furniture
d)Pauline Cheong (The Wedding Stylist) for stationary

Guess what we found - Vintage typewriter

Source: The Wedding Stylist

It was right under our noses all this time! We have been in search for a vintage typewriter since september last year but could not find a suitable one. There were lots in the market - small ones, big ones, un-usable ones, refurbished ones, coloured ones and black ones. To be honest, we were undecided...

Until, we found this little gem in the storeroom of Caroline's parents home. Surprise surprise... it belonged to her grandfather, kept in a grey suitcase-like cover. A little rusty but in usable, tip-top condition. Of course, none of us knew how to work it, but we will soon figure it out! It is currently being refurbished and we are thinking of adding perhaps a little dash of colour to bring back life to this forgotten treasure. A new mission - to type wedding wishes for our couples!

If you are wondering what part in a wedding does a typewriter have, look at these pictures. Voila!

Red Hues

Source: Christian Oth Studio

Different people pick different hues for their weddings. This season, red has reached our top charts. Strong, bold and fierce, this colour stands out but yet can be seductively subtle when added in the right proportions.

We found some lovely pictures to share...

Enjoy,

We cannot wait to post the photos when they are ready (2 weeks, fingers crossed). The photoshoot revolved around 2 themes, a happy candy coloured theme and a modern black and white theme. We shall not burst the bubble by saying more so here are just a couple more pictures to show you what we did.

Note: we brought in 11 boxes of props!

Video the Love Story

Source: Touchstone Pictures

Proposals, engagements and announcements are all part of telling each other and the world that you want to get married! But how often are the depth of these stories known? How did the groom propose? What did she say? How did they meet?

We are usually intrigued by the stories of our couples and how they tell it. You can see the excitement in their eyes and yet, a shyness when sharing their pasts with you because these stories are always intimate and very very close to their hearts.

This clip on Andrew Hsu's website (Studio MSV)is such a beautiful way to share your love story with the hundreds who don't know it. Enjoy!

Exchange for Candles

Source: Christian Oth Studio
As we were looking through other websites for ideas and inspiration, we came across the above picture taken by the talented team at Christian Oth Studio. It reminded us of how candles (be it tea lights or pillars) play such a dramatic yet subtle role in making a venue glow.

These days, we are obsessed with the latest blooms, the biggest flowers and the tallest vases. But how about the understated candle? These inexpensive accessories come in handy when creating a warm ambience. Here are some picture on what they can do. Enjoy!
